About West Air

West Air is a low-cost airline based in Chongqing, in south-west China. Its main hub is Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and its second hub is Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport in Henan province. It belongs to the group of airlines that grew out of HNA: Wikipedia lists HNA Aviation and Chongqing Yufu Assets Management Group as its parents, and in October 2026 the footer of West Air's own website linked to Liaoning Fangda Group alongside sister airlines such as Hainan Airlines, Lucky Air, Urumqi Air and Hong Kong Airlines. Members earn points in the shared Fortune Wings Club programme.

History

The company was founded on 27 March 2007 and began scheduled services on 14 June 2007. Wikipedia records five Boeing 737-300s among its former aircraft; today it flies only Airbus. On 4 February 2016 it launched its first international flight, from Chongqing to Singapore. In January 2016 it was one of the four founding members of the U-FLY Alliance, a grouping of low-cost carriers, with HK Express, Lucky Air and Urumqi Air.

Business model

West Air describes its baggage policy as different from that of traditional airlines. Allowances depend on the fare bought: the cheapest economy fares include a small cabin bag and no checked baggage, while higher economy fares, a "Yuexiang" premium economy fare and business class include checked bags. Extra baggage can be pre-booked online in 5 kg steps, and the airline sets excess-baggage charges in three bands by flight distance.

Network

According to Wikipedia, as of April 2026 West Air served destinations in East and South-east Asia, with the infobox listing 71 destinations. Zhengzhou, its second hub, is also listed by Wikipedia as a base of its sister airline Lucky Air, and both airlines take part in the same loyalty scheme.

Fleet

West Air flies only Airbus narrowbodies. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists 50 aircraft: four A319s, two A319neos, 26 A320s, ten A320neos, four A321s and four A321neos. Three of the A321s are listed as former Interjet aircraft and one as a former Avianca aircraft, though that note is marked as needing a citation. The table shows no outstanding orders. The article includes a photograph of a West Air A319neo on delivery at Airbus's Hamburg-Finkenwerder site in August 2025.
