About Wingo

Wingo is a Colombian low-cost airline owned by Copa Holdings, the Panama-based parent of Copa Airlines. Its legal name is AeroRepública S.A., the company that was Copa Airlines Colombia, and it flies under that company's codes. Its main base is Bogotá, with Medellín second; it flies within Colombia and to Central America, the Caribbean, Venezuela and Mexico. Eduardo Lombana is chief executive.

History

Copa announced Wingo in October 2016 as a replacement for most of its Copa Airlines Colombia business, which had been losing money for several years. Copa said Wingo would offer a single class of seats and charge for baggage, food and drink, seat assignments and priority boarding, and would add flights from Bogotá and Medellín to Panamá Pacífico airport, outside Panama City. Wingo began flying on 1 December 2016 with a flight from Bogotá to Cancún, using four Boeing 737-700s taken over from Copa. Those aircraft later went back to Copa and were replaced by Boeing 737-800s, which make up the whole fleet as listed by Wikipedia.

Network and traffic in 2026

In a 30 July 2026 release Wingo said it carried more than 1.8 million passengers in the first half of 2026, 12% more than a year earlier. About 1.3 million were domestic and about 500,000 international, on around 12,000 flights. It said it had opened nine new routes in that period and expected to carry more than 4.2 million passengers in the whole of 2026. Medellín, with more than 683,000 passengers in the half-year, is its second base; in March 2026 the airline called Bucaramanga its third-busiest city in Colombia.

2026 route changes

  • March 2026: Medellín–Caracas resumed on 1 March, and new routes linked Bucaramanga with Medellín (16 March), Cartagena (20 March) and Barranquilla (24 March).
  • June 2026: Bucaramanga–Aruba started on 17 June, and a Medellín–Guatemala City route was announced on 25 June. Medellín–Montego Bay was also added in the first half of the year.
  • 3 July 2026: Bogotá–Valencia (Venezuela) began while flights to Caracas's Maiquetía airport were suspended.
  • 7 September 2026: after Venezuela's aviation authorities announced the reopening, Wingo resumed Bogotá–Caracas daily and Medellín–Caracas three times a week, keeping Bogotá–Valencia.
  • 6 November 2026 to 25 January 2027: a seasonal Bogotá–Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) route, twice weekly, announced on 26 August.
