About Air Cairo
Air Cairo, which styles itself AIRCAIRO, is an Egyptian airline headquartered in Cairo. On its own website it calls itself a hybrid airline rather than a pure low-cost carrier: it runs scheduled flights to the Middle East and Europe and also flies charters to Egypt from Europe on behalf of tour operators. Wikipedia gives its ownership as 60% Egyptair and 40% 360 Investments, and its bases as Cairo, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada.
History
The airline was established in 2003; its about page says it began with its first Airbus A320 in October that year. Wikipedia describes it as remodelling itself towards a low-fare model; it launched its first scheduled flights on 1 June 2012 from Borg El Arab airport in Alexandria to Kuwait, Amman, Jeddah, Riyadh and several Libyan cities. In March 2021 it signed a sales agreement with SunExpress, under which SunExpress would plan, price and sell up to 30 Air Cairo flights a week to Hurghada from 14 airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A codeshare agreement with Egyptair followed in October 2024. Hussein Sherif, who had led the airline before, was named chairman and chief executive in November 2025.
Fleet
Air Cairo flies Airbus A320s and A320neos on most routes, with ATR 72-600 turboprops and Embraer 190 jets for smaller markets. Recent fleet news from the airline:
- 20 August 2026: it took delivery of another Airbus A320neo, which it linked to its international expansion plans.
- September 2026: at the El Alamein International Airshow it signed a firm order for 15 Airbus A320neos.
Wikipedia reports that in 2025 the airline aimed to reach about 45 aircraft by the end of 2026 and as many as 72 by 2029–2030, built around the A320neo.
Network
As of October 2026 the airline's about page says it operates more than 500 weekly flights to 90 destinations across Egypt, Europe and the Middle East, and that it has carried more than 20 million passengers since it began. Recent changes announced by the airline:
- 8 July 2026: first direct flight from Yerevan, Armenia, to New Alamein.
- July 2026: all its Türkiye operations moved to Istanbul Airport, and scheduled flights to Athens began.
- 11 October 2026: its operations at Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport moved to Terminal 4.
- Winter 2026–27: new services from Oslo to Cairo and Hurghada from late October 2026 (Wikipedia).
Ahead of the 2026 Hajj season it also ran pilgrimage charters to Saudi Arabia from Italy, Germany and Niger, with operational support from Egyptair, according to Wikipedia. In July 2026 it signed agreements with Salesforce and Arcsen for a new customer relationship management system.
