About Jambojet
Jambojet is a Kenyan low-cost airline, wholly owned by Kenya Airways and headquartered in Nairobi. Its main hub is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, with Moi International Airport in Mombasa as a secondary hub. It flies De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 turboprops, mainly on domestic Kenyan routes, with a small number of regional international flights. Jambojet's financial results are not published separately; they are included in the Kenya Airways group accounts.
Start-up as a Kenya Airways subsidiary
Jambojet was founded on 13 September 2013. Willem Hondius, previously KLM's general manager for Eastern Africa, was appointed chief executive the same month. The airline began flying on 1 April 2014. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority authorised it to serve a range of regional countries, among them Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Its early fleet included Boeing 737-300s before it standardised on the Dash 8-400. The current chief executive is Karanja Ndegwa.
Network
As of January 2024, Wikipedia lists seven Kenyan airports, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, Ukunda and Lamu's Manda airport, plus Zanzibar in Tanzania. Flights to Entebbe and Kigali were suspended in August 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. On 27 August 2026 Jambojet announced that it would return to Nairobi–Entebbe after six years, with daily passenger and cargo flights from 1 October 2026.
Fleet
The fleet is all Dash 8-400, in 78-seat and 82-seat layouts. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists 11 aircraft. The airline has been adding capacity: in June 2025 it brought its very first Dash 8-400, registered JXA, back into service, and in December 2025 it received another Dash 8-400.
2025–26

- April 2026: the airline opened an Integrated Operations Control Centre.
- June 2026: Jambojet said it had carried its 10 millionth customer.
- October 2026: daily Nairobi–Entebbe flights resumed from 1 October.
Checked bags are not included in any fare: passengers can buy up to two, while one cabin bag is always included.
