About Fastjet

Fastjet is the brand under which Fastjet Zimbabwe (Private) Limited flies, from its base at Harare's international airport. Wikipedia describes the company as 49 per cent owned by Fastjet Limited. It is registered in Zimbabwe with a local board, so that it meets the nationality rules for a designated Zimbabwean airline. The airline calls itself a value airline rather than a no-frills one: every fare includes a checked bag, and it sells a Business Premium product on some flights. Most flying is done with Embraer ERJ145 regional jets.

History

Fastjet announced on 25 March 2015 that it had received an air service permit from Zimbabwe's transport ministry. It obtained its air operator's certificate on 6 October 2015, and the first flights, between Harare and Victoria Falls, began on 28 October 2015. A daily Harare–Johannesburg service followed from 1 February 2016. Under Fastjet plc's stabilisation plan from August 2016, which moved the group to smaller aircraft, the single Airbus A319 based in Zimbabwe was replaced by an Embraer ERJ145, with a second ERJ145 from July 2017. The airline marked its tenth anniversary in November 2025.

Network

According to the airline's own description in September 2026, it flies Harare–Victoria Falls and Harare–Bulawayo within Zimbabwe, and from Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg. It also flies from Victoria Falls to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport near Mbombela. A scheduled Bulawayo–Victoria Falls service began in 2025, with inaugural flights reported by the airline in August 2025. In July 2026 Fastjet posted news of a new partnership with Etihad Airways.

Trying out the A320

On 16 July 2026 Fastjet Zimbabwe said it had signed a short-term lease for an Airbus A320-200, which Wikipedia says came from Global Airways. The aircraft entered service on 1 August 2026, mainly on Harare–Johannesburg and Victoria Falls–Johannesburg, to add capacity during the August and September peak. The airline said the lease was also a trial of the type, which could join the fleet permanently from 2027. It introduced a Business Premium cabin on A320 flights in July 2026. On 7 September 2026 it said the A320 would stay until the end of October 2026 and return for the December festive season.

Fleet

A Wikipedia fleet table dated August 2026 lists seven aircraft: six Embraer ERJ145s and the leased Airbus A320-200. The airline renewed its IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration in May 2026; it first achieved the registration in 2024.
