About flyadeal

flyadeal is the low-cost airline of the Saudia Group, the state-owned parent of Saudi Arabia's flag carrier Saudia. It is headquartered at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and flies an all-economy fleet of Airbus narrowbody jets on domestic routes and to the wider Middle East, South Asia and, in summer, parts of Europe. It shares a codeshare agreement with Saudia.

Origins

Saudia announced the creation of flyadeal on 17 April 2016, as part of the group's transformation plan, aiming at domestic travellers, Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and the growing number of tourists. The first flight, Jeddah to Riyadh, operated on 23 September 2017. The airline had originally committed to the Boeing 737 MAX but did not firm up that order; in July 2019 it announced it would order 30 Airbus A320neos with options on 20 more. Its first international routes followed, including Dammam to Cairo from June 2022, and in 2025 it added its first service to Pakistan, Riyadh to Lahore.

Fleet

On 17 February 2026 flyadeal took delivery of its first new aircraft of the year, its 34th A320neo, which the trade site ePlane AI reported took the fleet to 45 narrowbody jets, with a stated goal of 50. The same report said possible delivery delays and shortages of CFM LEAP engines had left some aircraft idle at times. Two larger orders are on the books:

  • May 2024: 51 narrowbodies, 12 A320neos and 39 A321neos, with deliveries from 2027, the airline's largest order.
  • April 2025: 10 Airbus A330-900 widebodies, ordered by the Saudia Group for flyadeal's planned longer, high-density routes. Wikipedia says the A330neo was chosen over the Boeing 787 and over transferring Boeing 777s from Saudia.

Traffic and network

According to the airline's summer 2026 release, flyadeal has carried more than 45 million passengers since 2017, and in 2025 it flew more than 10 million in a single calendar year for the first time. Its summer 2026 seasonal programme, running until 26 September 2026, had 12 seasonal routes linking five destinations with Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Qassim:

  • New: Milan, its first destination in Italy, and Prague, its first in the Czech Republic.
  • Returning: Trabzon, Sarajevo and Sharm El Sheikh.

The airline planned almost 900 flights over that peak period. In February 2026 its chief executive, Steven Greenway, said new aircraft would allow more frequencies on existing routes and new destinations; ePlane AI reported plans for new routes to India and Pakistan, possible future flights to Syria and Yemen, and more overnight flights to keep aircraft busy.

Fares
