About AirAsia Cambodia

AirAsia Cambodia is the Cambodian member of the AirAsia family of low-cost airlines, flying under the code KT. It is a joint venture between the AirAsia group and Sivilai Asia, a Cambodian hospitality group; Wikipedia gives the AirAsia side's holding as 51%. It shares the AirAsia brand, website, app and booking system with its sister airlines in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, but holds its own operating licence. Its head office is in Phnom Penh and, according to Wikipedia, its base is now the new Techo International Airport, which has replaced Phnom Penh's old airport.

A long road to launch

AirAsia first planned a Cambodian airline in May 2017, to serve tourism from Malaysia to Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. The plan stalled and was revived in November 2019, and Cambodia's civil aviation secretariat backed it in January 2020. The joint-venture agreement with Sivilai Asia was signed on 9 December 2022, and the airline was launched on 18 March 2024, subject to regulatory approval.

AirAsia announced KT as the group's seventh airline on 1 May 2024, and the first domestic flight, Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, operated on 2 May 2024. International flying followed quickly: Sihanoukville–Kuala Lumpur on 5 July 2024, Phnom Penh–Kuala Lumpur on 1 August 2024, Siem Reap–Singapore on 9 November 2024 and two routes to Vietnam announced on 13 November 2024. A sister maintenance company, ADE Cambodia, also set up with Sivilai Asia, received its approval from the Cambodian regulator in May 2024.

Network

The airline says it intends to fly within a four-hour radius of its Cambodian bases. Wikipedia's route table lists Siem Reap, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc alongside the Phnom Penh base, while Sihanoukville and Singapore are marked as ended. On 30 May 2026 AirAsia Cambodia signed a strategic agreement with the Cambodia Tourism Board to promote the country as a destination, with India and Australia named as focus markets.

Ownership and results

In January 2026 Capital A, the former parent, completed the transfer of its airline businesses to the listed AirAsia X Berhad, which was renamed AirAsia Group Berhad in July 2026. In its results for the April–June 2026 quarter, published on 13 August 2026, the group said its Malaysia and Cambodia short-haul operations had both stayed profitable, at a time when higher fuel prices pushed other parts of the group into losses.

Fleet

AirAsia Cambodia flies the Airbus A320. A Wikipedia fleet table dated August 2025 lists two A320-200s with 180 seats each. The table is more than a year old, and no newer official fleet figure was found.
