About Air Seoul

Air Seoul (에어서울, IATA code RS) is a low-cost airline wholly owned by Asiana Airlines. It is based in Seoul and flies mainly from Incheon International Airport. Asiana set it up to compete with other Korean low-cost airlines and to serve smaller Japanese cities. As of October 2026 it is still flying under its own name, but it is due to be merged into Jin Air, Korean Air's low-cost airline, following Korean Air's takeover of Asiana.

History

Air Seoul was established on 7 April 2015 and received its licence for scheduled air transport on 28 December 2015. Its own timeline records the air operator's certificate on 6 July 2016; flights started on 11 July 2016 between Gimpo and Jeju. The airline's first Airbus A321-200 joined on 5 October 2016, and international flying began that month with Incheon–Takamatsu on 7 October, followed within weeks by Shizuoka, Siem Reap, Nagasaki, Kota Kinabalu, Hiroshima, Macau, Yonago and Toyama. Guam and Osaka Kansai followed in September 2017, and Tokyo Narita and Hong Kong in October 2017. Later additions included Da Nang in 2018, Hanoi and Nha Trang in December 2019, and Sapporo in July 2023. The airline marked its tenth anniversary on 7 April 2025.

Network

Wikipedia lists 21 destinations, mainly in Japan, with others in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Guam and Saipan. Its destination table is dated June 2025 and mixes current, suspended and ended routes, so the list may not match the current timetable.

Merger into Jin Air

Jin Air, Air Busan and Air Seoul signed a merger agreement on 21 August 2026, after each airline's board approved it the same day. Jin Air is the surviving company and will take over the other two airlines' assets, liabilities, employees and legal status. The combined airline, referred to as the "integrated Jin Air", is planned to launch on 17 March 2027. At the time of signing, the remaining steps were shareholder votes at extraordinary meetings planned for December 2026, approval under South Korea's aviation law, an inspection by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and approvals from foreign aviation authorities. On 7 October 2026 Jin Air said Vietnam's competition authority had given its final approval; clearance from Korea's Fair Trade Commission and the transport ministry was still to come.

Fleet

Air Seoul flies only the Airbus A321-200. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists six, with no further aircraft on order.
