About Greater Bay Airlines

Greater Bay Airlines is a Hong Kong airline that sells itself on low fares and on links between Hong Kong, mainland China and nearby Asian cities. It is owned by East Pacific (Holdings) and its founder, Bill Wong Cho-bau, has chaired it since 2010. It flies from Hong Kong International Airport, where it moved to Terminal 2 in June 2026. Hou Wei has been chief executive since June 2025.

Origins

The company was registered on 24 May 2010 as the Hong Kong arm of Donghai Airlines and changed its name three times before becoming Greater Bay Airlines on 8 July 2020. Getting a licence took time: Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines raised objections during certification. The airline received its air operator's certificate on 8 October 2021, becoming Hong Kong's eighth airline, and its air transport licence in February 2022. With passenger travel still restricted by COVID-19, it began with cargo work, then started scheduled passenger flights on 23 July 2022, from Hong Kong to Bangkok.

Product

The product sits between a no-frills and a traditional airline. Fares range from GO GO Promo, which has no checked bag, to Premium GO with two checked pieces. From 31 July 2025 the airline introduced complimentary inflight refreshments, and it said in October 2025 that a Premium Class would launch that December.

Network

Expansion since 2025 has focused on secondary mainland cities. The airline's press releases record scheduled services to Guilin and Zhangjiajie from April 2025, Quanzhou from July 2025, Xuzhou from August 2025, Datong from September 2025, Enshi from October 2025 and Hohhot from February 2026, along with Sapporo from December 2025. In 2026 it added seasonal services to Phuket, Okinawa, Chongqing, Kunming and Urumqi, and on 26 September 2026 it started scheduled flights to Surabaya in Indonesia. Other routes listed by Wikipedia include Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Taipei, Manila, Bangkok and Phu Quoc. Several earlier routes, among them Singapore, Seoul and Ho Chi Minh City, are listed as ended. The airline marked its two-millionth passenger in August 2025.

Fleet

The fleet is all Boeing 737. In March 2023 the airline ordered 15 Boeing 737-9s, and it held a ceremony for its first 737-9 in November 2025. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists eight aircraft, six 737-800s and two 737 MAX 9s, with 13 737-9s still on order and deliveries due until 2030.
