About Tigerair Taiwan

Tigerair Taiwan (台灣虎航, IATA code IT) is a low-cost airline owned by the China Airlines group. It is headquartered in Taipei, and its bases are Taoyuan International Airport, which serves Taipei, and Kaohsiung International Airport. Most of its routes go to Japan, with others to South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Macau.

History

China Airlines group announced its move into low-cost flying in 2013 and set up Tigerair Taiwan jointly with Singapore's Tigerair. The company was founded on 16 December 2013, and its first flight, from Taoyuan to Singapore Changi, was on 26 September 2014, using an Airbus A320. Routes to Bangkok Don Mueang, Chiang Mai and Macau (from both Taoyuan and Kaohsiung) followed in 2014, and Tokyo Narita, Okinawa and Osaka Kansai in 2015. The 2016 additions included Fukuoka, Nagoya, Kota Kinabalu, Daegu, Sendai, Okayama and Hakodate, and the airline carried its millionth passenger that year; Busan followed in 2017. In 2017 China Airlines bought back the 10% held by Tigerair, making Tigerair Taiwan a wholly owned subsidiary of the China Airlines group, and in 2021 China Airlines acquired the Tigerair brand worldwide.

The airline applied in 2022 to list on the Taiwan Stock Exchange's Innovation Board and was listed in 2023 under the stock code 6757. In 2021 it took delivery of its first Airbus A320neo.

Network

Wikipedia's destination table lists 22 entries in Japan, five in South Korea, four in Taiwan, three in the Philippines, two each in Thailand and Vietnam, and one in Macau, though some are marked as ended or charter-only. Its milestones page lists new routes opened in 2025:

  • Kaohsiung–Sapporo New Chitose
  • Taoyuan–Oita
  • Taoyuan–Yonago
  • Kaohsiung–Jeju
  • Kaohsiung–Sendai
  • Taoyuan–Ishigaki

It codeshares with Trinity Airways of South Korea. The airline says that from 2025 all flights on its newly delivered A320neos use 5% sustainable aviation fuel.

Fleet

A Wikipedia fleet table dated December 2025 lists 17 aircraft: nine Airbus A320-200s and eight A320neos, all with 180 seats. A further seven A320neos and 15 A321neos, with 233 seats, are on order. In December 2025 the board approved a new-generation fleet plan, according to a Chinese-language source cited by Wikipedia.
