About SalamAir

SalamAir is Oman's low-cost airline, headquartered and based at Muscat International Airport. It began flying in 2017 and, as of October 2026, its website says it serves more than 40 destinations in more than 15 countries, including four domestic routes within Oman. It has a codeshare agreement with the national carrier, Oman Air.

Ownership and management

The airline was set up after Oman's Public Authority for Civil Aviation invited bids in 2015 for a low-cost operator. The tender was won in January 2016 by the Muscat National Development and Infrastructure Company (ASAAS), a partnership of the Oman Investment Authority, Muscat Municipality and pension funds. Wikipedia reports that on 26 March 2026 the Government of Oman acquired a 90% stake in SalamAir, to integrate it more closely with Oman Air. The airline's chairman, as of October 2026, is Khamis Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Yaqoob Al Kiyumi became chief executive in October 2026, succeeding Adrian Hamilton-Manns, who had held the post since June 2024.

History

SalamAir started with three Airbus A320s leased from the LATAM group; the first arrived in Muscat on 18 November 2016. Flights between Muscat and Salalah began on 30 January 2017, and the first international route, to Dubai, followed on 28 February 2017.

Fleet

As of October 2026 the fleet page lists Airbus A320neo, A320ceo and A321neo aircraft in the airline's green livery. The A320neo has 180 seats and the A321neo between 212 and 230. In July 2026 SalamAir took delivery of a new A320neo from Toulouse, named "Salalah", which flew its first commercial service between Muscat and Salalah.

Network growth in 2026

In September 2026 the airline said Copenhagen was its ninth new destination of the year. Recent openings it has announced:

  • June 2026: Vienna, which it described as the first air link between Oman and Austria.
  • July 2026: Medan in Indonesia and Kigali in Rwanda.
  • September 2026: Sylhet in Bangladesh and Mogadishu in Somalia.
  • Late October 2026: a new base at Salalah, initially serving Jeddah, Chattogram and Calicut, plus Muscat–Erbil from 25 October and Muscat–Damascus from 28 October.
  • 14 November 2026 (planned): Copenhagen, twice weekly via Baghdad, using fifth-freedom rights on the Baghdad–Copenhagen sector.

During the Khareef monsoon season in summer 2026 it ran up to 15 daily flights between Muscat and Salalah. In October 2026 it signed a distribution agreement with Amadeus and launched a stopover programme with Visit Oman and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
