About LEVEL

LEVEL is a long-haul low-cost airline based at Barcelona–El Prat and owned within International Airlines Group (IAG), the group behind Iberia, British Airways and Vueling. Its registered office is in Viladecans near Barcelona, and Wikipedia gives its company name as Fly Level SL. The airline flies Airbus A330-200s from Barcelona to North and South America, with a Premium Economy cabin and an Economy cabin. Fares are sold in tiers, from Light fares with no checked bag up to fares that include one or two.

A brand that became an airline

IAG announced LEVEL on 15 March 2017, partly in response to competition from low-cost long-haul rivals such as Norwegian. The first routes from Barcelona, to Oakland, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires and Punta Cana, began in June 2017. For its first years LEVEL was a brand rather than an airline: Iberia flew the aircraft under its own codes and supplied the crews.

The brand grew fast and then shrank. From July 2018 it took over flights from Paris Orly previously run by IAG's OpenSkies, and the same month it started short-haul flights from Vienna through an Austrian subsidiary, later called Level Europe, adding Amsterdam in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic both ended: Level Europe went into insolvency on 18 June 2020, and IAG announced the closure of OpenSkies on 8 July 2020. The Barcelona long-haul flights operated by Iberia continued and resumed on 11 September 2020.

In November 2023 IAG said LEVEL would get its own air operator's certificate. It received it in Spain in December 2024 and was assigned the code LL, with flights to stay under Iberia's IB code until a switch to its own code planned for 2025. In March 2025 IAG confirmed that Iberia had taken a 50.1% stake in LEVEL, which meets EU majority-ownership rules. Rafael Jiménez Hoyos was named chief executive in September 2024.

Network

As of October 2026, LEVEL's website lists flights from Barcelona to New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Lima. Wikipedia also lists San Francisco as seasonal. Lima was announced in December 2025 as a new non-stop route from 3 June 2026, three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Through IAG partners, LEVEL passengers can connect onto Vueling's short-haul network in Barcelona, and Wikipedia lists codeshares with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Vueling.

Fleet and cabins

A Wikipedia fleet table dated May 2025 lists seven Airbus A330-200s in three cabin layouts, from 275 to 311 seats. LEVEL's own fleet page shows a single A330-200 layout with 314 seats. Premium Economy seats have 37 inches of pitch. Economy passengers can choose XL seats, which LEVEL says offer 20% more space. Every seat has a seat-back screen. Wi-Fi, meals and checked bags are available to buy in Economy.

2025–26

  • March 2025: Iberia's 50.1% shareholding confirmed by IAG.
  • 2025: planned move from Iberia's IB code to LEVEL's own LL code, which Wikipedia now lists as its code.
  • December 2025: Barcelona–Lima announced.
  • 3 June 2026: Lima route due to begin.
