About HiSky

HiSky is a privately owned airline group with roots in Moldova and Romania. It flies under two operating certificates: HiSky SRL, based at Chișinău Eugen Doga International Airport in Moldova (IATA code H7), and HiSky Europe SRL, a Romanian carrier based at Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport. Wikipedia describes the group as a low-cost airline; the airline's own about page puts it slightly differently, saying its pricing "combines low-cost principles" with optional extras, sold through five fare packages: Basic, Classic, Premium, Premium Plus and Business.

A delayed start

The company was founded in Chișinău in 2019 by Iulian Scorpan, a former pilot and director of Air Moldova, together with Victor Sula, who came from the financial sector. The Romanian affiliate was set up in 2020. A launch planned for 2020 slipped several times during the COVID-19 pandemic and while the operating licences were still being obtained: HiSky received its Romanian air operator's certificate in December 2020 and its Moldovan certificate on 19 February 2021. The first commercial flight, from Chișinău to Hurghada in Egypt, ran on 5 March 2021, and scheduled routes linking Baia Mare, Chișinău, Frankfurt, Iași, Paris Beauvais and Satu Mare followed from April 2021.

Transatlantic flying

In June 2024 HiSky Europe began a direct service between Bucharest and New York JFK using an Airbus A330, which Wikipedia describes as the first direct Romania–United States flight since TAROM dropped the route in 2003. In its summer 2026 schedule announcement, published on 23 October 2025, the airline said the New York service would run four times a week and that a second US route, Bucharest–Chicago, would start on 4 June 2026 with two flights a week. Through Bucharest, passengers from other HiSky airports can connect onto the US flights on a single booking with baggage checked through.

Network

According to the same announcement, the summer 2026 programme has 27 direct routes from seven airports: Bucharest, Chișinău, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Oradea, Iași and Baia Mare. The airline describes its scheduled network as reaching Europe and the United States, alongside charter services to Asia and Africa. Its about page also states an ambition to become Romania's leading charter airline, which reflects how much of the business is built around tour operators as well as scheduled seats. HiSky said it passed 5 million passengers at the end of June 2025.

Fleet

HiSky flies only Airbus aircraft. The airline's own pages describe a fleet built on the A320 family, including A320s, an A319 and two A321neo long-range aircraft delivered in 2023, plus a wide-body A330 used on the long-haul flights. Wikipedia's fleet tables, dated August 2025, list the Moldovan and Romanian certificates separately, with most of the aircraft registered to HiSky Europe.
