Baggage & fees

Checked · varies by route and date

Indonesia AirAsia flights use the AirAsia group's baggage rules, published on the AirAsia support centre. Sizes and weights only.

  • Cabin baggage: two pieces with a combined weight of no more than 7 kg.
  • Main cabin bag: no larger than 56 x 36 x 23 cm including handles, wheels and side pockets; it must fit in the overhead locker.
  • Small bag: one laptop bag, handbag, backpack or similar, no larger than 40 x 30 x 10 cm, which must fit under the seat in front.
  • Infants under two: no cabin baggage allowance. Children from two get the standard allowance. A stroller in use by the child travels free as checked baggage.
  • Checked baggage: not included on basic fares. Value Pack and Premium Flex bookings include 20 kg. Pre-bookable allowances go up to 60 kg on selected routes.
  • Per-bag limits (when more than 30 kg is booked): each bag no more than 119 x 81 x 119 cm and 32 kg. No single item over 32 kg is accepted.
  • Indonesian domestic flights operated by QZ: 15 kg of checked baggage included. On a connecting itinerary it applies to the domestic leg only, not to an international connection.

Since 13 April 2026 the Xtra Carry-On add-on must be pre-booked online; at airport counters only 3 kg of extra cabin weight (10 kg in total) can be bought. Source: AirAsia support articles on cabin baggage, checked baggage and complimentary checked baggage, read on 24 October 2026.

About Indonesia AirAsia

Indonesia AirAsia is the Indonesian member of the AirAsia group, flying under the code QZ. It shares the AirAsia brand, website and app with the group's other airlines but holds its own Indonesian operating licence. Its head office is in Tangerang, next to Jakarta's Soekarno–Hatta airport, and Wikipedia lists four bases: Jakarta, Denpasar (Bali), Medan Kualanamu and Surabaya.

From Awair to AirAsia

The airline started life as Awair, founded in 1999, which began flying on 22 June 2000. Flights stopped in March 2002, and Awair returned to domestic flying as an AirAsia associate in January 2005. On 1 December 2005 it was renamed Indonesia AirAsia. At that point AirAsia Berhad held 49% and the Indonesian company Fersindo Nusaperkasa 51%, because Indonesian law does not allow majority foreign ownership of domestic airlines. Wikipedia now names PT AirAsia Indonesia Tbk as the parent. A separate long-haul affiliate, Indonesia AirAsia X, closed permanently in October 2022.

How it sells

Like the rest of the group, Indonesia AirAsia sells low base fares with extras priced separately, through the shared airasia.com site and AirAsia MOVE app. One difference matters for passengers: according to AirAsia's support centre, domestic flights operated by QZ within Indonesia include 15 kg of checked baggage, whereas most AirAsia fares elsewhere include none.

Network changes, 2025–26

  • April 2025: an Adelaide–Bali route was launched.
  • July 2025: Surabaya was promoted as a hub, with new routes to Bangkok, Balikpapan, Berau and Tarakan.
  • August 2025: a Labuan Bajo livery was introduced.
  • January 2026: Surabaya routes to Makassar, Luwuk and Palu were added, and a direct Bali–Da Nang route was announced.
  • May 2026: Bali flights from Melbourne and Adelaide were reported dropped, with rising jet fuel costs given as the reason; Cairns–Bali was also withdrawn. Perth is still listed.

The wider group has been cutting back. In its results for April–June 2026, published on 13 August 2026, AirAsia Group said its Indonesian operation had been restructured with a smaller fleet allocation, concentrating on higher-yield domestic routes and core South-east Asian links. Wikipedia's route table, dated July 2026, still lists international services to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Hong Kong and Perth.

Group structure

In January 2026 Capital A completed the transfer of its airline businesses to the listed AirAsia X Berhad, renamed AirAsia Group Berhad in July 2026, which brought all AirAsia-branded airlines under one listed company.

Fleet

Indonesia AirAsia flies a single type. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists 27 Airbus A320-200s with 180 seats each. The group said in August 2026 that the Indonesian fleet allocation had been reduced; the table may not yet reflect that.
