Wings Air, legally PT Wings Abadi Airlines, is the turboprop airline of Indonesia's Lion Air Group. It flies ATR 72 aircraft on short domestic routes, linking smaller cities and islands, often without passing through the group's busy Jakarta hub. It has no website of its own: tickets, baggage rules and service notices are published on Lion Air's site, lionair.co.id. Wikipedia calls it a low-cost commuter airline. It works more like a regional feeder than a jet low-cost carrier, but its standard fares are basic: as of October 2026 they include no free checked baggage at all.
Wings Air started flying on 10 July 2003 as a wholly owned short-haul subsidiary of Lion Air, with Bombardier Dash 8-300s and McDonnell Douglas MD-80s among its earlier types. On 15 November 2009 it signed a deal with ATR for 15 ATR 72-500s, with options on 15 of the newer ATR 72-600. The first three ATR 72-500s arrived in January 2010 and were handed over at a ceremony in Manado. Lion Air turned the 15 options into a firm order on 25 February 2011, and on 27 November 2014 it ordered another 40 ATR 72-600s for Wings Air. Over time the ATRs replaced the Dash 8s.
Wikipedia lists bases at Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Manado and Medan, with Makassar's Sultan Hasanuddin airport as the main operating base. The network is domestic and reaches many small airports in eastern Indonesia, including Papua and Nusa Tenggara. New regional routes are still being added: CAPA reported on 25 May 2026 that Wings Air would start Kupang–Tambolaka services in June 2026. In October 2026 Lion Air's newsroom was publishing day-by-day service notices for Wings Air flights at Jayapura, Wamena and Palu, after haze disrupted flights at those airports.
Wings Air flies only ATR 72 turboprops, with 72 seats. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists 77 aircraft: 59 ATR 72-600s and 18 ATR 72-500s. Lion Air Group does not publish fleet figures.
Lion Air Group's conditions of carriage list Wings Air as economy only. For tickets issued from 17 July 2025, the group's table shows no free checked baggage on Wings Air, domestic or international, and none for infants; under the earlier rules Wings Air tickets also had none. Passengers can buy prepaid baggage on lionair.co.id up to six hours before departure, in steps from 5 kg to 30 kg. Flight numbers carry the IW code, and Lion Air's manage-booking pages handle Wings Air bookings alongside Lion Air, Batik Air and Super Air Jet ones.
