About Super Air Jet

Super Air Jet is an Indonesian low-cost airline based in Jakarta, flying Airbus A320s almost entirely within Indonesia. Its own website calls it "a low-cost airline based in Jakarta", and says it offers point-to-point short- and medium-range flights. Wikipedia describes it as ultra-low-cost, built around cheap fares between the islands, with younger travellers as its target market.

A 2021 start-up

The airline was launched in March 2021 and, according to Wikipedia, is financed by Rusdi Kirana, founder of Lion Air Group. It received its air operator's certificate from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation on 30 June 2021. Flights began on 6 August 2021, from Jakarta to Medan and Batam, after a delay of about a month caused by COVID-19 restrictions. The first network was built entirely from Jakarta, to Batam, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru and Pontianak. Its chief executive, Ari Azhari, previously worked as general manager of services at Lion Air Group.

Wikipedia notes that the airline's official channels have rejected claims of formal ties to Lion Air. In practice the two are closely linked: as of October 2026 Lion Air's own website sold prepaid baggage for Super Air Jet flights alongside Lion Air, Wings Air and Batik Air, and listed Super Air Jet in its group baggage table.

Network

Wikipedia lists bases at Jakarta Soekarno–Hatta, Balikpapan, Batam, Denpasar, Makassar, Medan, Semarang, Surabaya and Yogyakarta, and gives 40 destinations as of May 2025. Nearly all are in Indonesia, from Banda Aceh in the west to Manokwari in Papua; Kuala Lumpur is the only foreign destination in the list. Growth continues at secondary airports: AeroRoutes reported on 9 September 2026 that Super Air Jet had filed six new routes from Bandung's Husein Sastranegara airport, to Balikpapan, Denpasar, Makassar, Medan, Pekanbaru and Pontianak, starting between 25 and 28 October 2026.

Fleet

Super Air Jet flies a single type, the Airbus A320-200. A Wikipedia fleet table dated July 2026 lists 60 of them. Lion Air Group does not publish fleet figures, and the airline's website gives none.

How fares work

The airline's conditions of carriage list economy and business booking classes, and changes and refunds are charged according to how close to departure they are made, with only airport taxes refunded on promotional fares. For tickets issued from 17 July 2025, the free checked allowance was cut to 10 kg on both domestic and international routes; before that it was 15 kg or 20 kg depending on the route. Infants without a seat get no checked allowance. Pre-booked meals are sold separately.
