Jetstar to increase use of the Boeing 787

For many airline observers, it is hard to believe the low fares variant of Qantas is celebrating after 10 years in operation. I lived in Melbourne at the time when Jetstar launched a major above the line campaign in direct competition to Virgin Blue, Richard Bransons Australian airline which was depleting the market share of the national flag acarrier, Qantas.

I will never forget the actress on the tv adverts who finished each advert by screaming ‘Jetstaaaaaaaar’. I guess if I can remember them 10 years later, probaobly means the adverts worked.

The Tullamarine, Melbourne based airline is celebrating by ramping up its Boeing 787 flights. Jetstar was conceived by local businessman Lindsay Fox, one of Australia’s most successful businessmen in 2004.

Many southern hemisphere airlines are following suit with the 787 becoming popular across Australasia.

In April, Jetstar became the first airline to operate a commercial Boeing 787 flight from Brisbane Airport. The flight is scheduled to depart 4 times per week and destined for Bali. This service now adds 3000 seats to the route, all classed as low fares.
